It's Elementary - Welcome!

February 1, 2018

2018 Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics will begin in just a few days.  Our nation will be united in cheering on American athletes as they soar off ski jumps, bolt down bobsled runs and skate their way into history.  The Olympics also presents a unique teaching opportunity in classrooms.  The official site of the Olympics offers a series of free and accessible teaching resources that have been created by the International Olympic Committee, The Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP).

The five educational themes of Olympism are:
  • Experiencing the joy of effort
  • Learning to play fair
  • Practicing respect for oneself and others
  • Pursuit of excellence
  • Living a harmonious and balanced life of body, will and mind
Take advantage of this special time to incorporate some gold medal lessons into your day.

Welcome Back!

Spring holds a lot of promise.  We have faith that the leaves and flowers will return and the warm sun will shine down on our faces one day soon.  Until then, there is a lot of work going on below the ground we don't see.  Roots are holding plants in place and gathering essential nutrients, and energy is being transferred getting everything ready for the big transformation, the big show.

So, here we are getting ready for our big show.  We've got a new math curriculum that, while challenging, is showing a lot of promise in our students. Our renewed focus on foundational skills and writing are resulting in some amazing student work.  We are also looking at our reading lessons through a different lens.  All this below the ground work will result in a collaborative creation come April and May.

Our New Math Coach...Dr. Ashley Walther

Anderson County Schools is excited to have Dr. Ashley Walther come on board as our new K-5 math coach.  Dr. Walther has a broad background in math education from teaching in the classroom, to developing PD for math educators, to developing state standards.  We are so fortunate to have Dr. Watlher on board.  Welcome!
